Environmental Drilling Engineer – General Job Description

The job comprises all aspects of site investigation work including vacuum excavation, borehole drilling (by a variety of techniques from hand held window sampling equipment to medium and large sized drilling rigs), monitoring well installation and development, surveying and various associated tasks performed by Geotron UK during their drilling projects. Full training is given in all aspects of our work although experience in construction/groundworks/drilling/general plant operation etc. is advantageous.

The job involves driving company vehicles including vans and pick-ups with and without trailers, mini-artic /trailer combinations and and LGVs. B + E, C1 + E  or C + E entitlement preferred.  Other beneficial qualifications include H&S training (CSCS, CCNSG or SPA), UK PIA (working on petrol station forecourts), NRSWA (streetworks accreditation) and PTS (working on railway sites).

The position, therefore, comprises field based site work, generally hands-on in nature. We offer the opportunity to become trained in the operation of our machine vac-ex and drilling rigs requiring high levels of practical skill, an ability to visualise the subsurface geological sequence and utilise an understanding of contaminant geology and hydrogeology. Suitable candidates will feel comfortable with tools and machinery and be prepared to learn, or have experience in, some of the more technical aspects of our work such as machine maintenance and metal work.

The sites on which we work are located throughout the UK, the Republic of Ireland and on a less frequent basis within mainland Europe. Individual site investigation projects can last from a single day to a number of weeks and our crews are expected to lodge overnight (expense allowance provided) when sites are out of reasonable commutable range from our base in Mossley.

To enable us to provide a competitive service to our clients it is preferable that our site investigation crews live within close proximity to Mossley and have their own transport. Working days can often begin early in order for us to travel to a site to begin work first thing in the morning.

Our aim is to employ individuals who enjoy working outdoors, have a desire to travel through their work, are knowledgeable (or keen to learn) in the field of geology/geotechnical engineering/environmental science, can show initiative and problem solving capabilities and can work in a manner which will maintain the professional reputation of our company with our clients.
