Over-Water Drilling Rig
The recent aquisition of a modular barge system has enabled
the development of an over-water drilling system. The barge is
sectional and can be assembled to accomodate the specific drilling rig
being used for the investigation in question. Once the rig is secured
to the barge, drilling can proceed in the same way as on land.
Temporary steel casing is advanced to the base of the water body and
keyed into the sediment surface. Drilling through the lake/sea bed
sediments and or bedrock by augering/cable percussion/rotary drilling
etc. can then proceed in the normal manner with or without continued
advancement of the casing.
