Ground Source Heat Pump Boreholes

With recent focus on climate change and its future impact on the Earth there has been an increasing interest in the use of sustainable energy to fuel our lives. One of the options currently available is the use of Heat Pump technology to provide energy to heat our homes and workplaces thereby reducing the amount of energy sourced from the burning of fossil fuels.

Heat Pumps utilise energy that is available from the air, in the water and from underground and they convert that energy into available heat.

Systems utilising energy from the ground can be installed in one of two ways. The first is suitable for properties with sufficient surrounding land area to install a horizontal heat collector pipework system. A collector loop of pipe-work is laid at shallow depths (1.2 to 1.5m) beneath a specified surface area. Where space is limited and there is insufficient lateral area available for the installation of a horizontal loop, the collector loop is installed within boreholes which have been drilled to a depth as specified by the design of the system.

Geotron UK operate and have access to a range of multi-purpose drilling machines which are capable of installing these boreholes, depending on the site and geological conditions.
